Substitution Jarmo Hoogendijk

(12-10-2004) We have just received the shocking news that Jarmo will not be able to perform for a while due to a serious lip injury.
At the moment he is recovering, we wish him all the best and hope he will soon be back on stage with us.

Fortunately new generation stellar trumpeter Rob van de Wouw is doing a great job substituting Jarmo during the Double Bill tour.

Jarmo, son of a Dutch father and Finnish mother, was born on March 28, 1965, in Den Helder, the Netherlands. At the age of 6, after hearing a record by Louis Armstrong, he decided to become a jazz trumpeter. While being in high school, he taught himself some improvisation by playing along with jazz records every day until midnight.

In 1982, just before leaving high school, professional duties began to call and he got hired in several funk and Latin bands. When trumpeter Ack van Rooyen accepted him as his student in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in 1983, Jarmo was already a self-supporting musician, but his goal was to become a full time jazz soloist. Soon after finishing his academic studies "cum laude" in 1989, Jarmo got hired as trumpet teacher in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Rotterdam Conservatory. Together with Ben van den Dungen he was awarded the NOS/Meervaart -Group Award in 1985. He was also awarded the Pall Mall Export Swing Award in 1986.

Jarmo is well known in and outside of Europe as one of the best jazz trumpet players of our time. He is one of the very few trumpet players who is performing on an equally high level in jazz and in latin. He can be heard on numerous CD-recordings.
